Care and MaintenanceThank you and congratulations on the purchase of your new Paul Reed Smith instrument. As a builder of high quality instruments, we take great pride in our work and stand behind our products. The following guidelines will assist you in caring for your new PRS instrument. To prolong the life of the finish of your new PRS instrument, we highly recommend that after each use the entire instrument be wiped thoroughly with a soft, clean, dry cloth including the strings. If you would like to clean and/or polish the finish of your PRS instrument, we recommend PRS cleaner and/or polish. It is important to remember that dirty, corroded or worn strings will cause loss of sustain and treble frequencies and may result in faulty intonation and tuning instability. Fresh strings will not only improve the overall tone of the instrument, but it will also make the instrument more enjoyable to play. For the cleaning and conditioning of a rosewood fretboard, rosewood neck optioned McCarty solidbody, 513 Rosewood neck/fretboard or the neck/fretboard of your Modern Eagle model we recommend the use of a quality lemon oil. This should also clean tarnished frets as well as dirt built up on your fretboard if used with a toothbrush. After the lemon oil is applied, thoroughly wipe down all of the surfaces with a soft, clean, dry cloth and seal it with a quality furniture polish. The natural oils in your hands, over time, should seal and treat the rosewood as well. *Do not oil the headstock of your McCarty Rosewood, as it may cause the headstock logo to lift. Please note, if your guitar is a Modern Eagle, CE 22, CE 24 or a Swamp Ash Special, we strongly recommend not hanging or setting the guitar in a guitar stand/hanger outfitted with chemically active synthetic/surgical tubing. Doing this may cause a chemical reaction with the nitro-cellulose finish on the neck (CE and Swamp Ash models) or the body (Modern Eagle model), which could cause the finish to dissolve. This will not be covered under PRS' limited lifetime warranty. In some instances nickel hardware may tarnish. We have found that in addition to wiping your guitar down thoroughly after each use as outlined above, a liquid metal polish works well to clean up any of the tarnished hardware. Please remember that your PRS instrument is temperature and humidity sensitive. Do not expose your new PRS instrument to extreme levels of heat or cold, as well as overly dry or damp situations as it could be damaging to the instrument. Please also note that if the instrument is overexposed to sunlight the stain color may fade. All PRS parts and accessories are available through your local authorized PRS dealer/distributor or through our online accessories shop (US residents only) at http://www.prsguitars.com.
