With the launch of the SE Santana model in 2001, a whole new breed of players and guitar lovers had access to PRS quality at a much more affordable pricepoint. To this day, SE guitars are revered as a sort of “boutique import” and played on stage by thousands of musicians around the globe. Jack Higginbotham served as PRS Guitars’ president during the time when our SE line was first introduced to the world. Below he explains the story and how our SE line came to be.
PRS and maple wood have had a long relationship that began in the late 1970’s when Paul began using unique and highly figured maple on his earliest instruments for artists like Carlos Santana and Al Di Meola. While many of our designs and processes have been tweaked over the years, our love of maple has not wavered.
