Jimmie Johnson and Hendrick Motorsports Takes Home His First PRS Appointed Trophy
(Stevensville, MD) September 11, 2007 – PRS Guitars joined Chevrolet for a third consecutive year at the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 Nextel NASCAR Cup series race at Richmond International Raceway on September 7th and 8th. This year’s onsite collaboration began on the front stretch of the ¾-mile long, D-shaped oval track where staff from Richmond International Raceway and PRS Guitars joined together for an exclusive photo shoot of the pace car and matching PRS trophy. As part of PRS Guitars’ continued Corvette C6.R factory race team sponsorship, PRS displayed several Corvette branded guitars in the Chevy Fan Fest Pavilion, including the newly released Ron Fellows Limited Edition Z06 Standard 22 and SE Corvette. Chevy Fan Fest also featured the 2007 Malibu and Motor Trends Truck of the Year, Chevy Silverado. The 2007 Chevy Rock & Roll 400 Nextel NASCAR Cup trophy was on display as well, providing fans with a rare opportunity to come close enough to the handcrafted trophy to see their own reflection in the figured metal and high-gloss finish of the guitar.
Live entertainment included the Jolie Holliday Band, MTV’s Ricky Rachtman and special appearances by Daughtry and several Chevy NASCAR drivers. Just prior to the race, hundreds of fans gathered on the track for a pre-race concert featuring Daughtry where guitarist Brian Craddock rocked his PRS guitar collection. Just before the green flag, Jolie Holliday and guitarist Jerry Metheny addressed the lively Richmond International Raceway fans with an incomparable performance of the National Anthem while playing a PRS Hollowbody II Piezo.
With only 50 laps to go in the race, PRS staff headed down to the Gatorade Victory Lane to place the trophy in position for the winner. Shortly thereafter, Lowes sponsored driver, Jimmie Johnson drove his #48 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in for the victory lane celebration. Track president, Doug Fritz presented Johnson with the 75 pound, custom PRS Standard 22-fret guitar engulfed in polished aluminum flames and embedded within a 3-D polished aluminum rendition of Richmond International Raceway. The guitar sits atop a mahogany and maple pedestal painted to match the color scheme of the pace car. Its estimated retail value is $30,000.
