Meet The Models: The 2017 SE Lineup

Filed Under Electrics / SE Electrics / Meet The Model

As a musician, you want an instrument you can trust. A guitar that can take a beating but keep on giving, stay in tune when it matters, and sound incredible. You want it to look good and make your playing feel effortless. Oh, and you don't want to spend your life savings.

Meet the 2017 SE lineup.

The newest version of our PRS SE guitars have arrived and brought with them some changes. Let's dig in below.

What's Different?

A great guitar needs a great look, and we've introduced a new headstock logo for nearly all of our 2017 SE models.

Paul Reed Smith and our design team set out to engineer new pickup models that better align with our flagship USA pickups. The new PRS 85/15 "S" pickups were designed to deliver remarkable clarity and extended high and low end, and are now offered on the SE 277 Baritone, SE Custom 22 Semi-Hollow, SE Custom 22, SE "Floyd" Custom 24, and SE Custom 24.

We also worked closely with PRS artists Carlos Santana and Mark Tremonti to update the pickups offered in their SE signature guitars. The collaboration resulted in new SE Santana pickups that bring Santana's signature sound to life, and SE Tremonti pickups that have more articulate aggression than ever before.

Santana fans rejoice! In addition to the new SE Santana pickups, the 2017 SE Santana also features 24 frets and an updated control layout so you'll sound and feel more like the man himself.

Models In Focus

We believe there is an SE model suited for everyone, from hard-riffing metal players to melodic blues players. In fact, many of our SE models can cross these genres seamlessly. Below, let's take an up-close look at a few of our favorite 2017 SE models.

SE Custom 24 & SE Custom 22

Our SE Customs are built to be versatile and instantly comfortable to the modern player. Whether you prefer 24 frets or 22 frets, the PRS 85/15 "S" pickups and PRS designed tremolo on the SE Customs will surpass your expectations for instruments in this price point.

SE "Floyd" Custom 24

Maybe dive bombs, distortion, and aggressive playing are more your thing. Don't fear, we've designed the SE "Floyd" Custom 24 for that purpose and more.

Give it a listen below!

SE 277 Baritone

If you're searching for a new spot in the mix, want to stand-out, or you just want to get low, the SE 277 Baritone is your answer. The 27.7" scale length and B to B tuning help your old riffs achieve an all-new sound. Try it, we think you'll be impressed (and hooked).

Give it a listen below!

There's more to see! Between SE Electrics, SE Basses, and SE Acoustics, there's a perfect fit out there for you. Check out the SE Product Pages for in-depth specs, color options, and more!

Very nice guitars would be even better with some left handed models.

Have decided to no longer offer the Dave Navarro model? If so, will you still offer the Jett White with gold hardware in the C24 model?
Dan November 05, 2016 - 3:00pm
Wish you would offer a left handed option for these. I would love to be able to get one of the S2's.

No Hardtail option on the Custom 22? The 24 could use a hard tail option as well! :(
Jon Marjanen November 01, 2016 - 7:20pm
How come you picked this year of all years to stop offering an SE Custom 22 with a hard tail? This makes me a sad panda!

Hey Ben, thanks for playing PRS! 2017 SE models should be shipping now. Contact our distributer in Australia for a more accurate time frame for that region! Electric Factory 613 948 059 88 [email protected]

I love SE's & already have an SE Standard 24 & an SE Single-cut Trem. I'd love to get an SE 245 in Cherry Sunburst, but haven't heard anything about a release date for the new SE range in Australia. Is there an ETA for availability of the 2017 models over here?

Hey Jose, I hope you have a chance to try the 2017 SE Santana to hear for yourself. They really are great and a bit closer to our Maryland-made version!

I keep hoping every single year that you guys will put out a maple-neck, maple-fretboard, version of the SE 22 or SE 24, I have soo many rosewood fretboards, that I need maple. I am really wanting a PRS but my next few guitars will be maple fretboards for sure. Hope to see one at some point.

Hi The previous day to appear the new model SE 2017 I have bought the SE Santana. I love how this guitar sounds but the new model brings improvements that I love too (headstock with the name Paul Red Smith, pickups, control layout). Could you tell me if the pickups really sound different? Should I change my guitar SE 2016 for the new model SE Santana 2017? It is worth the change? Kind regards Jose

Hello guys, Will we ever get an SE Custom 24 with wide fat neck? Why are all SE 24 fret guitars come with wide thin neck? I hope you guys offer an SE Custom 24 with wide fat neck this time. Please do this!
V October 26, 2016 - 3:20pm
I have an excellent SE already. Good sounding guitar! I remain, however, hopeful to see a 24 fret, 25inch scale, fixed bridge LP style SE guitar sometimes in the nearest future.
Timothy October 19, 2016 - 11:28pm
From the moment I picked up a PRS guitar I was hooked, I will buy one just a matter of time, the feel, the weight, the action all just fit nuff said!
David G. October 19, 2016 - 10:28pm
The new SE line-up is incredibly impressive. Designed for the working Artist to have exceptional, affordable, instruments available to them without compromising quality, tone, or performance.
Mark October 19, 2016 - 6:02pm
Beautiful. All that's missing is left handed options :(
Robert Mitchell October 19, 2016 - 5:37pm
There is a serious problem with your guitars: I want all of them.
Kevin Daniels October 19, 2016 - 5:10pm
Can't wait to buy 3 of them The Zach Myers, Custom 22, and Baritone !!!! Love the 85/15 !!!
Ron L October 19, 2016 - 3:41pm
Damn! I just bought a C24 not too long ago! If I knew these changes were coming I would have held out.
