The Birth Of Our SE Line

With the launch of the SE Santana model in 2001, a whole new variety of players had access to PRS quality at a much more affordable price point. In the years following the 2001 release, we have enjoyed growing and expanding the SE lineup into what it is today - a diverse selection of great feeling, great sounding, and highly reliable instruments.

Today, SE guitars are revered as a sort of "boutique import" and enjoyed on stage by thousands of musicians around the globe - including artists like Zach Myers, Alex Lifeson, and Mark Holcomb. Jack Higginbotham served as PRS Guitars' president during the introduction of our SE line and now more directly focuses his skills into growing our SE line as a Chief Operating Officer.

Below he explains the story of our SE product family.

I just bought my first PRS guitar in January 2018,its a PRS SE 24 custom Floyd, smoke gray quilt top. The instrument plays and sounds as beautiful as it looks! The action is light to the touch and the neck is fast. The Floyd Rose tremolo system is very responsive and stays in tune! Dive bomb or light wiggle makes no difference! I am very pleased with my purchase and at first I thought the price (at G. Center) was a little high but after owning my guitar it is well worth it! I would purchase it again and I would have no problems recommending this guitar to anyone. I will never buy another Gibson when I can get this kind of quality at this price!!!! The G snobs can waste their money on that over priced c#$*! PRS you have a new fan and very happy owner!!!! Thanks

I've always been a 'single coil' guitar ( 2 Fender Strats, a Jazzmaster, a Tele ) player, and I wanted something different, so I bought an SE Custom 24 because of the coil splitting feature. In fact; I never use the single coil setting: only the humbucker setting, because I love it's sound. I didn't want to spend the big bucks ( worth every cent! ) on a US PRS, which is why I bought the SE, but I'm still amazed by it. I love this guitar! I love the way it looks ( 30th anniversary ), I love the way it plays, and I love the way it sounds! I'm as satisfied with this guitar as I am with my Fender Custom Shop Strat! And that says a lot!

I bought a Se Custom Tremonti 2017. Fantastic guitar, fantastic workmanship, great playability! I do not think I'll need to be looking for my Gibson - Fender now that I've found my guitars and perfect handles. Soon I will also take a Custom 24 2018. Thank you for your wonderful job!!

Hi, 1. Is there a 2018 SE collection in the works? 2. Is it true that the SE line made in Indonesia is stopped, and only SE Custom (made in ???) will be available?

I have owned an SE Soapbar II since 2005 and it is still one of my all time favorite guitars! Others, including more expensive guitars have come and gone since then but these SE guitars make a lot of others look pale in comparison. Keep up the good work everybody, you make great instruments!!

Hello! I was wondering about the status of the SE 7 string guitars. I don't see them in many stores and not on online dealer's websites. Will there be a new version for the 2018 line-up? I am a proud owner of a SE Mark Holcomb guitar and I can't praise it enough. The specs are everything I've ever wanted on a guitar. Will we be seeing a 7 string version of his signature or a SE 7 string loosely based off his guitar in the future? I would love to play a 7 string like that! Thanks for the beautiful instruments, love to see and play them, looking forward to what's coming next for PRS!
