Exploring Tones: The S2 Coil Split

You may have heard the old adage "variety is the spice of life" - the idea that a new experience can make life a bit more interesting. We think this wise proverb can also be applied to the world of electric guitar. Enter, the coil split.

A coil split allows you to achieve single-coil tones out of a humbucking pickup. Paul Reed Smith has always been a proponent of getting a variety of sounds out of one guitar, and for this reason we offer many guitars that feature both of these classic sounds.

Today, we're going to hone in our S2 series, specifically two electronic layouts that are found on most of our S2 instruments.

The benefits of the electronics layouts above are evident to players trying to achieve many tones with one guitar in a studio or live setting. The 3-way pickup selector paired with the push/pull tone knob means humbucking and single-coil tones in each position.
