Meet The Models: The 2017 SE Lineup

Filed Under Electrics / SE Electrics / Meet The Model

As a musician, you want an instrument you can trust. A guitar that can take a beating but keep on giving, stay in tune when it matters, and sound incredible. You want it to look good and make your playing feel effortless. Oh, and you don't want to spend your life savings.

Meet the 2017 SE lineup.

The newest version of our PRS SE guitars have arrived and brought with them some changes. Let's dig in below.

What's Different?

HEADSTOCK UPDATES

A great guitar needs a great look, and we've introduced a new headstock logo for nearly all of our 2017 SE models.

PICKUP CHANGES

Paul Reed Smith and our design team set out to engineer new pickup models that better align with our flagship USA pickups. The new PRS 85/15 "S" pickups were designed to deliver remarkable clarity and extended high and low end, and are now offered on the SE 277 Baritone, SE Custom 22 Semi-Hollow, SE Custom 22, SE "Floyd" Custom 24, and SE Custom 24.

We also worked closely with PRS artists Carlos Santana and Mark Tremonti to update the pickups offered in their SE signature guitars. The collaboration resulted in new SE Santana pickups that bring Santana's signature sound to life, and SE Tremonti pickups that have more articulate aggression than ever before.

THE SE SANTANA

Santana fans rejoice! In addition to the new SE Santana pickups, the 2017 SE Santana also features 24 frets and an updated control layout so you'll sound and feel more like the man himself.

Models In Focus

We believe there is an SE model suited for everyone, from hard-riffing metal players to melodic blues players. In fact, many of our SE models can cross these genres seamlessly. Below, let's take an up-close look at a few of our favorite 2017 SE models.

SE Custom 24 & SE Custom 22

Our SE Customs are built to be versatile and instantly comfortable to the modern player. Whether you prefer 24 frets or 22 frets, the PRS 85/15 "S" pickups and PRS designed tremolo on the SE Customs will surpass your expectations for instruments in this price point.

Give them a listen below!

SE "Floyd" Custom 24

Maybe dive bombs, distortion, and aggressive playing are more your thing. Don't fear, we've designed the SE "Floyd" Custom 24 for that purpose and more.

Give it a listen below!

SE 277 Baritone

If you're searching for a new spot in the mix, want to stand-out, or you just want to get low, the SE 277 Baritone is your answer. The 27.7" scale length and B to B tuning help your old riffs achieve an all-new sound. Try it, we think you'll be impressed (and hooked).

Give it a listen below!

any thoughts to offering the SE line with phase2 locking tuners?
Daryl June 26, 2017 - 8:17am
Prs make some amazing guitars, but I'm hoping that will think about left handed musicians and make affordable guitars for us left handed musicians as not all of us musicians can afford the custom model Prs. Prs SE would be idea place to start.

Where are the SE guitars made?

The lineup is beautiful as usual, but as a left handed guitarist who loves PRS guitars, I would like to see options for lefties as usual. Is there a chance for the lineup to offer some lefty products?
Bo February 17, 2017 - 5:26pm
Is there/will there be an SE 24 semi-hollow? I only ask because of the coil tap on the 24 doesn't exist on the 22. Thanks

No this is not left handed guitars. If you steel have a problem contact me. I will send you a image of left handed guitars to see major difference. :-)

Hi, any chance of a Holcomb SE 7 being released in the near future? Thanks!
Grey Johnson January 03, 2017 - 6:30pm
I was wondering if there are any plans of a SE 8 string coming out? I know it's past the 8 string boom/trend but I would love to add a PRS SE 8 string to my collection. Possibly use the same scale as your baritones. The 27.7"

Dear PRS guys, I'd love to see a PRS SE Mark Holcomb seven-string guitar released in the future! With the same specs as the USA model (26,5 inch scale-length, etc.). Cheers and Merry Christmas to the greatest guitar company on this planet! PS: I currently own four PRS SE guitars. ;-) Greetings from Germany! - Marcel

The introduction of some left handed se models would honestly make me so happy. So hard to find good guitars for those of us with useless right hands!
Dan December 16, 2016 - 9:33am
I have a Bernie SE. Was intending to buy a single cut from a certain other US company, but nothing within twice the price of my Bernie even came close. Fit, finish, sound and attention to detail is incredible for the price. I will almost certainly get a 22/24 at some point. Time will tell if it is SE or S2. Keep doing what you're doing.
Jared Pennington December 11, 2016 - 5:06pm
Can there be a Single Cut SE with a two piece bridge like a classic LP design but more color options and the PRS vibe?
killian December 03, 2016 - 8:53am
I have to say my favorite PRS guitars are the ones with the wraparound bridges.i own 3 ..wish you made more .. I think my ideal guitar would be a wraparound satin finish 22 fret model...
Mark December 01, 2016 - 12:28pm
Would love an H-S-H or another H-S-S model!
Rich November 14, 2016 - 5:07pm
Love the new lineup! Definitely made the wish list big time! I just wish that the SE line would include a Custom 24 in jade green. It's my favorite PRS color and as I can't currently afford one of the real-deal American customs so hopefully they'll come out with that soon!
Gyorgy Ligeti November 11, 2016 - 8:45pm
Hi there, Is that correct, that this new line SE Custom 24-s have three-piece neck? If it is, could you tell us the reason? Cheers, G.

What's the P90 model in the picture ?
Ejel November 08, 2016 - 11:45am
Had no idea you made acoustic guitars. We don't see many of your higher end electrics here in Northern Colorado. We own 3 of the Korean guitars. Each with its own unique personality. Love the P22 and P245.
Kyle November 08, 2016 - 8:52am
Will there be any developments in the SE line as far as high gain amps or something along the lines of a custom 50? Thanks again for making awesome products! 20 years this year I have been playing PRS! 23 of them still hanging on my wall!
