When Journey wrapped up their latest album ‘Eclipse,’ guitarist Neal Schon still had an itch to make more music. Conveniently, a break in the action allowed him the time to knock out enough material for two new solo albums.
As Schon told Ultimate Classic Rock during an interview this past weekend, the two albums, including one that reunites him with his former Journey bandmate, drummer Steve Smith, are very different. Schon calls the album he made with Smith “one of the most rockin’ records I’ve made.”

If you've been yearning for some classic Carlos Santana, "Shape Shifter," the guitarist's first album on his new Starfaith Records label, is just the ticket. Santana's 36th album is dedicated to Native American Indians and features 13 mostly original songs he has been saving for a special release. Only one song, the Latin-flavored "Eres La Luz," features vocals (singers Andy Vargas and Tony Lindsay). The remaining instrumental tracks showcase Santana's virtuoso guitar playing in a beautifully arranged and carefully paced album.
The coming to fruition of a meeting of musical minds that has had fans of adventurous, progressive and heavy music shivering with anticipatory excitement for many years, Storm Corrosion is unlike anything you have ever heard. A collaboration between two of the modern era’s greatest and most revered artists – Steven Wilson, prolific sonic polymath and frontman with UK prog standard bearers Porcupine Tree, and Mikael Åkerfeldt, leader and chief creative driving force for Swedish progressive metal legends Opeth – it takes the listener on an unprecedented journey into realms yet undiscovered.

Seven years after their impressive 2005 debut ‘Twelve Year Silence,’ Dark New Day continue their rock journey with New Tradition, which is set for release on Feb. 28. This time around, the melodies are more complex and empowering and the rock riffs are rawer and even more amped-up, resulting in a set of songs that appeal to the real-deal rock fan.
